Blog 2 term 2 new zealand painting

SHANE COTTON
Sons of God(s), 2010
Acrylic on canvas
100 x 150 cm

This painting gave me a view of what Cotton was trying to say for example the gun is like god it can take away peoples life's or protect them from anybody that tries to do them harm. So by seeing this painting i decided to choose Shane Cotton as my New Zealand artist to do a response to.

Te Waiwhariki 2004 (detail)
synthetic polymer paint on canvas
180.0 x 160.0 cm

This painting seems to be a self-portrait of Ngāpuhi chief Hongi Hika (c1780–1828), who was a key role in the new zealand musket wars. Shane Cotton uses native and exotic birds to his moko. it is seem to be a symbol of hope, the future nd as warnings alongside a painted target. The painting is named after one of many Hika's guns and a famous battle between Ngāti Maru and Ngāpuhi.

The meaning of After in terms of painting is most likely a response or responding to the painting the you have selected or that has inspire you.
